Overview
Gomoku, also known as Five in a Row or Renju, is a classic board game played on a Go-style grid. Two players take turns placing stones; the first to align five in a row horizontally, vertically or diagonally wins. The rules fit on a napkin, yet the tactical depth rewards a lifetime of play. On NeuraCraft, Gomoku comes with a warm wood board, crisp black-and-white stones and a quiet interface. Play against the computer across several strength levels, or pass and play with a friend on the same device. Everything runs offline and without ads breaking up your thinking. A quick round takes only a few minutes, making Gomoku a great companion for a coffee break or a calm evening.
How to Play
- Black plays first; players alternate placing one stone per turn.
- Stones go on empty intersections of the grid and are never moved.
- The first to make an unbroken row of five wins the game.
- Watch for "open threes" and "open fours" — they often decide the match.
- If the board fills with no five-in-a-row, the game is a draw.
Cognitive Benefits
- Gomoku is a compact workout for pattern recognition and forward thinking. Spotting threats, planning double attacks and visualising lines of play exercises attention, working memory and strategic reasoning, supporting overall cognitive health.
