Overview
Xiangqi, often called Chinese Chess in the West, is one of the most played strategy games in the world. Two armies face each other across a river, and the goal is simple: checkmate the opposing General before yours falls. Behind that simplicity lies centuries of opening theory, middlegame tactics and subtle endgame technique. Our Xiangqi board is built for comfort. Large pieces, high-contrast dark theme, quiet move sounds, and no flashing animations. Play against the computer at several strength levels, review your games, and watch your NEURA brain-score grow as you improve. Everything works offline. No sign-up, no ads between moves, no pop-ups pushing in-app purchases. Just you, the board, and a game that has kept minds sharp for generations.
How to Play
- The General must stay inside the palace; the Advisor and Elephant defend it.
- Chariots move like rooks; Horses move like knights but can be blocked.
- Cannons move like Chariots but must jump exactly one piece to capture.
- Soldiers move one step forward, and sideways after crossing the river.
- Win by delivering checkmate or leaving the opponent with no legal moves.
Cognitive Benefits
- Xiangqi is a calm form of cognitive exercise. Planning several moves ahead, weighing trade-offs and visualising piece interaction strengthens working memory, attention and strategic thinking. Regular play is a pleasant way to support cognitive health without screens shouting at you.
